Mel Biggs

Als rijzende ster binnen the Engelse folk scene is trekharmonikaspeelster Mel Biggs zich in een rap tempo een reputatie aan het verwerven voor haar stevige en puntige ritmische speelstijl. Met Andy Cutting als mentor als onderdeel van het EFDSS Aspire programme* is ze op het podium te zien met het enerverende trio 'Moirai', met Jo Freya and Sarah Matthews en maakt zij deel uit van het nieuwe Boxtet-project met Ollie King, Owen Woods en Matt Quinn.
 

Na bijna 18 jaar in de traditionele Engelse dans-scene speelt ze tegenwoordig voor de groep Harlequin Morris, een jonge club dansers samengesteld uit dansgroepen uit heel Engeland.
 

Mel staat bekend als een uitstekende trekharmonikadocent in Engeland, en daarbuiten via Skype. Ze heeft workshops gegeven op talloze Engels folkfestivals en komt nu voor het eerst naar het continent.

Mel Biggs

Mel Biggs will teach a variety of traditional and original English dance tunes. We'll look at the specifics of how to make a typically 'English' sound on the accordion and use our new knowledge to have a go playing for an English Morris Jig. Mel's partner, Bryan, is joining her as dancer for some of the workshops.
 

As a rising star of the UK folk music scene, melodeon player Mel Biggs is swiftly gaining a reputation for her solid, punchy rhythmical style. Mentored by Andy Cutting as part of the EFDSS Aspire programme she can be seen on stage with exciting trio 'Moirai' with Jo Freya and Sarah Matthews and as part of new project Boxtet with Ollie King, Owen Woods and Matt Quinn. After almost 18 years involvement with traditional English dance scene, Mel can currently be seen playing for Harlequin Morris: a young scratch side made up of dancers from other dance sides across the UK.
 

Mel is held in high esteem for her melodeon tuition in the UK and internationally across the internet via Skype. She has lead workshops at numerous UK folk festivals and melodeon workshop weekends. However, this will be Mel's first time teaching on the continent.
